To find out, we partnered with Derik Kline, founder and CEO of HailTrace, along with members of his storm-chasing team, and put the shingles to the ultimate test — in a real hailstorm, on the back of a specially modified (and fully tricked-out) Ford Raptor pickup truck.
The experiment was part of a new, six-part web series with Atlas’ own Paul Casseri, director of product management and business development, who traveled to HailTrace's home base in Edmond, OK, to be an honorary storm chaser and monitor the durability of StormMaster shingles.
We're Not in Kansas Anymore
In the first episode of "Weather the Storm," Derik and his team begin tracking a potential hailstorm in Taylor, NE.
They discuss the science behind hailstorms and the company's weather-tracking technology, how their storm-chasing truck was outfitted to survive extreme conditions, and the do's and don'ts of preparing for and minimizing property damage from a severe hailstorm. And they share their favorite storm-chasing snacks and unusual cow-related superstition (trust us, it's not what you think!).
As the series continues, you'll get to ride along with the group as they make the 8-hour journey from Oklahoma to Nebraska, driving straight into a dangerous hailstorm.

"Weather the Storm" debuted Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. (ET) on Atlas Roofing's YouTube channel. New episodes will air every other Tuesday through Nov. 21. And on the weeks in between, Derik and Paul will host live Q&A sessions on the same channel, so have your questions ready!
